Idol Radec

Nick Thomas, one of the co-founders of the sexy sexy line of clothing known as IDOL RADEC, is one of my favorite bi-coastals of all time. He’s just as handsome as you can handle and is friendly without feigning. His partners in crime (the crime being that I want ALLL of the stuff in every collection in every color) are David Hickman and Scott Barclay, each of whom is equally smart and dashing. The three haveknown each other “for pretty much ever,” according to Nick. “We all work really well together and compliment each other to the fullest. We’re family.” Good genes. I caught up with Nick recently to pick his brain a bit about business and how it’s been booming like mad.

Nick, first of all, where on earth did you come up with the name?
There’s a street in the town David and I grew up in Villa Park, California called Radec, and we were just throwing names around…. We drove by Radec Street and Dave was like “Radec,” and I was like, “Idol” and we were like, “OMG IDOL RADEC.”

Wow, that’s some real stars aligning type shit. OK, describe IDOL RADEC in as few words as possible.
Modern Americana

Now describe IDOL RADEC in AS MANY words as possible.
IDOL RADEC is a classic American men’s collection, whose inspiration has been drawn from culture, education, and refinement. It is influenced and inspired by an era when men dressed with confidence and purpose. IDOL RADEC’s fit, construction and materials all share this rich philosophy. We are heavily inspired by film, and extraordinary directors such as Antonioni, Kubrick and Goddard.

Awesome, awesome and awesome. Three of my personal faves as well. So, your stuff is on all sorts of CELEBS. We at PAPERMAG love celebs. Who have you found it most enjoyable to work with?
We actually love celebrities too. Truly, we can’t get enough of them. I have enjoyed all of them so far, but if I had to choose I would say James Franco.

He’s a good guy to have your wearing your clothes. But I know a lot of people who’d prefer if Mr. Franco would just leave the clothes OFF. So, say I’m a guy who doesn’t work for Lehman Brothers and I happen to have a shit ton of money and I wanna go crazy and buy all your stuff. Where can I do this?
At Oak NYC, Fred Segal and Barney’s Japan, to name a few.

Well, yeah, I’m definitely interested in heading over to Osaka RIGHT NOW for a buying binge at Barneys… OK Nick, let’s talk business: What are some projects/ideas you have brewing?
We are working on expanding the product offering to accessories, potentially footwear down the road and hopefully a women’s collection.

Idol Radec

Idol Radec, one of the handful of strictly menswear designers at LA Fashion Week, showcased their Spring 2009 collection at Box Eight Studios.  The collection of menswear ranges from the preppy to the laidback to the serious.

The show takes on quite a different attitude of the other shows at Box Eight.  While designers like Brian Lichtenberg and Michel Berandi tend toward the dark and mysterious, Idol Radec's pieces appeal to a wider range of mainstream fashion.
