The Suh-Tahn philosophy was created with the help and balance of natural and man-made forces, inspired by architecture and shapes found in nature.
Established in Los Angles in late 2005, Suh-Tahn debuted their first Fall/ Winter ready-to-wear collection. The collaboration between longtime friends Shannon Nataf and Dimitry Tcharfas began with the motivation to bring intensity to design that is matched with exceptional quality and attention to detail, creating a fusion of art and innovation.
Shannon Nataf: Raised in Los Angles, Shannon Nataf began modeling at the age of six for both print and runway. At 18, Nataf started her studies and competed in volleyball at the University of San Francisco. It was here that she sought her passion for philosophy, anthropology and sociology, ultimately uniting historic and worldly studies with creative projects. Nataf began working as a design consultant, traveling internationally to develop trends. Beginning with the conviction that fashion goes deeper than fabric, Suh-Tahn existed without designs but with philosophy.
Dimitry Tcharfas: Dimitry's motivation for design stems from the organic. He draws his greatest inspiration from nature and the way it constantly revolutionizes yet remains somewhat unchanged. He is intrigued by both the functionality of objects and his surroundings and brings that to the table in the creation of Suh-Tahn.
Dimitry was born and spent his early childhood in the Ukraine. At the age of nine, he moved with his family to Los Angeles. Driven by a passion for self-expression and appreciation for textiles, he chose at an early age to engage in an affair with fashion. He spent most of his adolescence honing his own personal style and conceiving ways to implement the elements of style that he felt were missing in the Los Angeles fashion scene. During this time, he studied costume and drew inspiration from both ancient costumes and the natural world.
