Maggie Barry

Maggie Barry is a FIT graduate from New York City. A Los Angeleno for the past 18 years, business woman, designer and business partner of Maggie Barry Company for the past seven years. Collaborating together since 1996 with Carolyn Ajavananda – both ave managed to create unique women's clothing for specialty boutiques and chains across the country and, over a few borders and bodies of water.

Barry's tenure in the fashion business started in New York City just after graduation where she worked for Manhattan Industries. Later she started an accessory line that sold at Macy's.

Having been bitten by the entrepreneur bug, she ventured West to start her own company called Van Buren. Van Buren catered to the body conscious consumer of the 80's 90's. Teamed with fellow New Yorkers and classmates she took the lead in clothing celebrities and wannabees in edgy leather jackets, pants and bustiers.

The company's designs were featured in national and international fashion publications such as BAZAAR, VOGUE, ELLE, WWD, LOS ANGELES TIMES, CALIFORNIA APPAREL NEWS and NEW YORK TIMES. Van Buren was soon sought after for custom work for celebrities such as Cher, En Vogue, Salina, Donna Summer, The Pointer Sisters, Lenny Kravitz and Billy Idol. Her special accolades from her peers included a nomination for "Best Young -Rising Star-California Designer of the Year" and later a nomination for "Best California Designer of the Year."

In 1996, as tastes tamed after the mid 1990's and an ethereal wave swept the fashion scene, Maggie Barry merged as a solo designer and has since created clothing with a more feminine touch. Maggie Barry embraces the feminine side of dressing. The line features special occasion and cocktail dresses. Its designs sought after by "up and coming", and including, the shining "Stars" of Hollywood today.

Both Television and Movie productions seek out Maggie Barry's black label as answers to their cocktail clothing needs. Having recently dressed the sexy-army of models/talent on the Deal or No Deal game show throughout the season, and donned the stars of the Desperate Housewives casts both on the red carpet and the show.

Later in 2000 the Maggie Barry collection was introduced. Maggie Barry Collection is comfort for cocktail, luxurious for dress down and edgy while fitting right in. With its mixture of "soft-to-the-touch" rayon lycra jersey fabric, sexy silhouettes and edgy & trendy details in dresses and separates, this line fits everybody's closet needs. The departure from the former fabrics and body styles are in the designs. For which the concentration is in the drape and flow over a woman's curves in soft rayon lycra jersey.

For each label the palette of color choices will change for the seasons, as one group touches the blush of a flower petal and the blue of the sky, the next will become rich with the colors of jewels, or earthy with the deep dark shades of a forest at dusk.

The details won't detract and the silhouettes are sexy without being brassy.

Designed for a modern choice, which makes a clear statement of the versatility of femininity.
