So, here's what's going to be hot this spring, according to LA Fashion Week designers.
ORANGE: Not just orange orange or tangerine or sherbet but every shade of orange and peach. On every piece of clothing in every way imaginable. Dresses, skirts, sweaters, even pants. And don't think this trend just applies to the women. Men can get in on the orange action, too. Just don't go overboard. Balance the orange, especially brights, with neutrals.
MOVEMENT: So long stiff, fitted clothes. Spring brings warm weather and cool breezes, so the designers are giving us clothes that move with us. These breezy, flowy clothes have a earthy, organic feel to them and combine ruffles with full skirts.
MENSWEAR: Of course men wear menswear, but some of the lesser-known, off-the-beaten-track designers are brining us edgy menswear for women. Think blazers with short shorts and slacks with suspenders. Sure, this trend has been brewing for a while, but this time around, designers have taken menswear and given it a decidedly punk yet feminine feel.
SHORT HEMLINES AND HIGH-WAISTS: Both of these trends have been around for a while, but now they come together to balance out the retro-look of the high waist and the modern-look of the short hemlines.
SCALES (for lack of a better term): Some of the dresses and skirts coming down the runway this season look like fish scales. But despite how it looks in print, in actuality, the trend is executed very well by several designers. Whether small and covering an entire dress or large and strategically placed, the design is innovative and creative.
RUFFLED LAYERS: Think anything from full ballerina skirts to more understated relaxed, multi-colored layers. The key to this trend is differing the color of the layers and accenting patterned layers with solid ones.
